two dams embankments and so increase the depth, in this way I have heaped up water which has stood throughout the season where it only used to stand for a few months.  At each well we have about 600 feet of troughs made of galvd. iron nailed to cross pieces of wood cut out to a semicircle - and in addition a tank to hold a supply.  My anxiety about water is completely overcome, it is only a matter of expense, but the dry state of the country alarmed me;  I saw the grass nearly all eaten off and the ground so hard that vegetation had nearly ceased, and that in the middle of Sept. when we generally are best
