every prospect of a good increase, but the drought continued up to Sunday last the 8 of this month, when from the telegrams received, rain has fallen generally throughout the interior;  I may say (with the exception of a few light showers, insufficient to wet the ground);  that there has been no rain since Sept. last.  For the last 2 months there has been "very hard frosts, with a bit here, and the plains as dry as at Christmas.  The Ewes running mad for the want of water, and the lambs 2 & 3 weeks old dying - even the dry flocks requiring water".  These quotations are from letters written on my station on the 3d of this month, and
