the summer tolerably well.  I am sinking more wells, and am getting fair water in every place I sink, that is water that though too brackish for the men to use, does for the stock.  I have about 37,000 sheep on these runs now, and I calculate that they consume a gallon a day each on an average, so with cattle & horses &c, I have to draw about 40,000 gallons a day from a depth of about 100 feet.  I work wind power which is very uncertain and not of much use.  The "whim" is perhaps the best and handiest appliance.  And the doble "double whip" is the simplest though more heavy on the horses.  I have had
