About a year ago the Govt. could not sell the Back Blocks in the Albert District at a rent of £10 each, and they were for some time open to the public at that rate, and many of them were taken up at that low rent, and most of the occupants have not yet been able to stock them for the want of water. They have paid rents, and spent money in making tanks & wells, and few of them have had any returns from their investments.
