altogether this has been a very trying season; and I have no doubt but many holders of runs must succumb to the effects of the season. We have had two or three good seasons previously, and most of the runs were too heavily stocked. The calculations were that the country had improved in carrying capacity, when the good seasons were the real cause of the improvement. I believe that the country is never better than when it is first taken up. Artificial water has added enormously to the capacity of the dry plains, in fact were it not for my own dams & tanks
