It wd. therefore be desirable to avoid extremes such as the heavy unsound lands of Richlands and the thinly grassed lands of the lower Murry [Murray], but if I had to choose between I wd. rather the latter. On that block of country in question lying between the Lachlan on the East, and the Darling on the west, I would prefer the open plains nearest the hills, as they wd. be equally healthy & wd produce more wool & carry more stock. All these plains have a sprinkling of salt bush which is enough. Other plains with only a sprinkling of grass and thickly covered with salt bush is not so desirable for reasons I have already addressed. If you find
