Lodden Plains, Burn Bank 7th Sept. 1848
My dear Sir,
On my return from Melbourne last week, I received your letter of the 6th ulto. and have written to a few friends there requesting them to use their influence in your favor should there be any prospect of success; I saw Mr. Graham when in town, he told me that you were desirous of being elected, but did not seem to have any hopes on the subject. I have seen Mr. D. C. Timson who goes to town tomorrow, and who has promised to use any influence he can command in your favor, should he see any chance. He will see Mr. Graham on the subject. It appears from the public reports that a sufficient number of resident candidates are in the field; which is against your prospects. I know very little of the state of political matters in Melbourne
