My Dear Aunt,
I received your very welcome letter and paper dated 29/12/15. I had heard the sad news about Eddie I met a fellow I knew in Cairo the first words out of his mouth were about Edric. I did not believe him at first but I received a letter from Lilly two days after and then I could not realise it in fact I cant now but I have had plenty of letters since then.I am keeping up the best I can with the consolation that it was all for the good
[Driver Edric Castle, No 235, 24, a saddler of Moore Park, Sydney, NSW, and brother of Oswald and Roderic Castle, joined the Army on 18 October 1914 and embarked from Sydney on HMAT A19 Afric on 21 December 1914. he served with the 1st A.S.C. (Army Service Corps) at Gallipoli and was invalided home from Egypt on 31 August 1915.
