than if they had been driven. That taught me never to drive cattle, if they would walk along. After 2 years & 4 months experience, my Father thought enough of me to give me the management of MIRIAM VALE, 230 miles of LEASEHOLD, & 5000 acres of FREEHOLD, with about 7000 head of beautiful SHORTHORN cattle, which Mr Roe, head stockman, with the help of good Abos YORKIE, TOMMY, JIMMY, KUTCHONG, TOM & BUNDA, had converted into a quiet workable herd, by tailing (shepherding) up to 1000 head, whole camps of mixed cattle & tailing the weaners every year.

They had been a rather wild herd & it had been a rather wild herd & it had been necessary to ?light, at the scrub on the COLOSSEUM CREEK, to get some of them in. A few of the old cows still took some getting. 

The year 1890 was one of the very wet years, 96 inches of rain at Miriam Vale, & it took us some time to muster in the continuous
