We heard at Jimbour that the Burrandown driver had rented a paddock, as the CONDAMINE was not crossable.

Rode on to DALBY to make enquiries, slept in a bed, & caught a cold. Heard that the river was crossable, as there was a bridge. On my arrival back to the cattle there was trouble, the "second in charge" had been showing his authority, telling the others what to do, they knew their job & did not like being bossed. It was like driving cattle, & not letting them walk, with me they were let walk.

The mosquitos SCOTCH GREYS were very thick, especially near clumps of box trees, & used to drink blood from our horses necks, & fall off into the long grass, one on my horse exploded before he fell off. They were day feeders & did not trouble us at night.
