It was a cold Winters night & they sat at a fire, & it was raining, & a ghost scratched on the slabs of the fireplace & groaned, & they both ran into the other room, & got into bed. This happened at intervals during the night, & at break of day Frank said "ghost or no ghost" he was going out. Lachlan said he would go too. They opened the door, & Frank pushed Lachlan out, & shut the door, & the ghost scratched & groaned again & they rushed their bed once more. An old, & almost blind gin, called KIPPER, used to get lost when hunting with her yam stick, & the others used to go & find her, but it was too wet that night. She could see the light between the slabs, & she felt some warmth from the fire.

Sally who was a young gin, found the frame work of a crinoline, only the hoop part, & put it on (no other clothes) & strutted round, & just didn't she think herself. The boys
