The girl on the narrow track on the side of the hill was in a very dangerous position, if there were more than a dozen steers just behind her.  But even with only a dozen she should have ridden quickly back against the bank, a few steers may have gone under the log without moving it, but two or more going at the same time would surely have carried it round on their backs. There was no necessity for the abo (aboriginal)  to climb up the steep hill above the track, he could have gone along the track. The rope onto the log, & the horses neck was darn stupidity, tied onto the horses tail he could have pulled it round quite easily without so much risk of being pulled over the precipice. Only the ? end of the log fell over anyhow, the branches did not show.
