1854. The early pioneering days of Miriam Vale & district.

Miriam Vale is on the main railway line, 285 north of Brisbane, 65 miles from Bundaberg, & 43 miles from Gladstone by rail.

The old homestead was 45 miles by road from Gladstone, & about 70 via Rosedale to Bundaberg. This may interest people in that part of Queensland, if not now, - possibly in the future. Got most of the information from my father E.G. Blomfield, who with S.K. Cox bought the lease in 1856 with about 8000 sheep, and from the Little family of Rosedale, who arrived there in 1854.

To begin with the first white people we know up there were the Littles of Rosedale, who came from a good old North of Ireland family. The older ones, Robert, William, Thomas, Eliza, Harriet & Maria were born in Ireland. Rachel (Mrs Murray) was born off the West coast of Africa, & James was born in Australia. Old Mr Little was employed first at Coolangatta on the South Coast of NSW. Afterwards was in charge of a station near Queanbeyan, where they took most of their wages out in sheep, cattle & horses.
