My best known dog SPOT, by a FOX TERRIER out of a cattle short was quite a good silent heeler, but if a beast objected to coming back into the mob, he would jump up, catch it by the lip, not the nose, & hang on. Only twice did we see a beast get rid of him. Once when Spot had been hanging on for quite a while, the beast got tired of holding Spot up, & trod on him with his hind foot. Many years ago we took some barb wire to block our neighbours cattle from MILTON STATION coming thro a narrow gap in the MANY PEAK RANGE. We drove a small mob of Milton cattle up over the gap in the Many Peak Range, but one big 3 year old steer did not want to go. So just said, catch him Spot. It was a very steep place, the steer let a bellow out of him, & swung his head to shake Spot off, but Spot did not let go till the steer rolled over twice, it rolled over a couple more times, got up & streaked over the gap like a WALLABY. Spot once caught a big 2 year old heifer by the lip with her head thro under a top rail, & over a barb wire. She dragged him from post to post along the barb wire, but he would not let go, until hit with my stock whip. If Spot went into a water hole after a beast he would grab it by the lip, & at times
