Know nothing about droving, except what Tom told me, & he impressed on me that it was necessary to have a "second in charge" & on my return to the bullocks both times that it was necessary for me to go ahead, to see if rivers were crossable, there was trouble, he had been bossing the other boys, who knew their work, & did not have to be told.

Tom & Bunda (Abos) taught me how to work cattle, & how to get the weaners to feed when tailing them. At times Mr Roe used to jog off home, & leave us to bring a mob of 600 to 800 head of cattle in to the yard. We had been driving the mob till he left, when all of the boys let the cattle spread out, & they just walked along, & got in more quickly, & less distressed
