We did not like picnic racing in town, & being one of the foundation members of the Port Curtis Picnic Race Club, they asked me to call a meeting of the members of the PCPRC, that lived down our way, around & South of Miriam Vale. JIM THYNNE of WLLILA CREK was the first to come, & we had just let his horse go at the old stable at Miriam Vale, when we heard some terrific rattling at the back of the stable. It was a very close finish of a ten mile buggy race from the COLOSSEUM CREEK on the GIN GIN road. A most suitable race to start the FLINDERS AMATEUR PICNIC RACE CLUB, held at TOWERAN for about 18 years. F. BLACKMAN of WARRO 1st, R.G. BARTON of TOWERAN 2nd, A.H.G MACDONALD of ORETI 3rd.

It was about 1897 that we held our first meeting at TOWERAN. My old BARALLAN won the BRACELET & the Ladies Bag & MAINSTAY the Picnic Handicap. From memory, many of the good horses over the many
