going down hill. His father's place has no hills, so told him he need not learn that for himself, but told him "for God's sake to keep back while on my place." One of the hottest days in my many days in Queensland, a neighbour of mine would not take his stockmans advice & let his cattle rest in the shade of the creek to get cool & he had to? (pull away with plow chains) 26 head of dead ones out of the yard next morning. The same day we mustered into a camp about 14 miles away from our yard, cut out about a dozen fat cows including one that went 750lbs got home in good time & not one of them injured. We gave them 3 swims in big waterholes on the way. One of the hardest things to teach a young "knowall" is when you are racing on one side to turn the leaders not to try & beat you on the other side of the mob. This happened to me when well up in the seventies (abt. 7 1/2)
