Your remarks on the wheat yield & the wool clip are interesting & show a most satisfactory position. You're right - its a good thing "Brittania still rules the waves" despite the toll paid to the German submarine to maintain her colossal commerce with the world. As you suggest it simply boils down to who can stand the strain the longer. But on that Im willing to bet all my deferred pay one way.

News is pretty good just now re the war generally. The indirect result of the Somme Battle is just being shown by the Huns' withdrawal to a stronger line much further back. I would like to go into details about this but am of course not permitted. However it will keep. The news that the British troops were in possession of Baghdad a few days ago is cheering and it will undoubtedly restore our lost prestige in the East. Everything here points to a good old ding-dong go presently in which both sides will feel the strain but I think our preparations are as perfect as our enemy's and
