hospital there who invited me to play tennis.  Again I was invited to the houses of two or three French civilian families where I was entertained most royally.  Very few Australians had previously been to this part and on that account I was a wee bit of a novelty or curiosity.

We had a sports meeting at the Vet. Hospital one day and it was the best organized and carried out affair that I've seen anywhere.  I am enclosing a programme and you will note how the committee has been strengthened by one particular name.  I am also enclosing a photo which may amuse you.  M'lle Rivi (No. 9) gave me an excellent time at her home.  She plays the piano and violin splendidly.  The little French nurse smiling (No. 11) was also a great friend of mine.  I'm rather sorry I did not get a copy of other photos taken the same day which showed a crowd of other people who were very kind to me.  One item which caused a great deal of amusement was a mule race for officers.  There were about a couple of dozen mules in a Kraal
