girl persevered with me for some time endeavouring to initiate me into the mysteries of some sort of 'rag' with little apparent success, during which time I gracefully jumped on her dainty little shoes many times and oft until in sheer desperation I excused myself and sought solace in the cool night air.  Dejected and disgusted I hailed a welcome passing taxi and ere the dance was half over was well on my way to the hotel and things I was more conversant with.  Need I explain why I "regrettably declined" all further invitations to similar functions?
