take a hand in it. Yes, I dont doubt that you miss him a good deal and I can understand what a great comfort he had become to you.
Bob told me that he had sent you an enlarged photo of Eric & I. Im glad you liked it. Yes he & his wife are, as you say, fine people. They will certainly interest themselves in Sydney. Bob mentions in each of his bi-weekly notes to me that he is looking forward to welcoming him. Strange to say, neither Bob nor I have heard from him yet though Bob tells me the Orontes arrived at England a couple of weeks ago. I have waited eagerly for a note from Syd.
You say you do not seem to be able to get any real particulars about Fred. In my last letter to you I told you most of the particulars which should explain the position fully to you. To me, too, his position is rather unsatisfactory. Being Secretary to a Sergeants Mess is hardly an enviable position whereas he had some standing in the Pay Office. His rank & pay are still the same as before - I have advised him to try & get back
