Yes dear I can guess how "my silly old Mother" felt on X'mas day - But Cheer O! old dear Ill be back wid ye next Xmas, sure!

You tell me you feel rather badly that you didnt send me a parcel of goodies for X'mas but the Pater said I was where I could get anything I wanted - Could I??  All I got at that period were things I didnt want in the slightest - shells cold & snow.  I wonder if he thinks we are fighting in Paris??  Or whether we have canteens just round the corner?  Civilization doesnt start until you get miles behind the line and weve been in the line since 25th Oct with a spell of 10 days during which 10 days I was on leave in England.

It was very kind of Mrs Randall to send you a X'mas present.  I would write her but unfortunately I have not her address & also I have forgotten the names of the girls.  I shall write Fred & get this information.
