My dear Pater
Here's a rough answer to your letter on reverse side just received an hour ago.
The reason for my cable of 10 July was as you surmise. We had had some heavy fighting for some weeks about this time which did not allow of us writing you. Lest you should hear that we were in that fighting and become alarmed at not having word from either of us I cabled you,.
I trust Fred's job at Brisbane turns out all that he expects and desires but I am exceedingly sorry that he will be so far out of touch with you. However it may have great opportunities and possibilities.
I regret to note that Bob is not OK and trust that the operation may be entirely successful and have the desired result. I wholly agree with your views and remarks that 3 months
