My dear Pater

Thanks for your interesting letter of 20th Jan also for 2 copies of Life.  These copies of Life are quite an institution in the Battery and all look forward to them.

New Postal address noted also your reasons for moving about so much of late.  It certainly isn't a cheery occupation paying out rent week by week when you might be putting the gilt into a crib of your own - especially when you had a block of land lying idle.  As you say, too, it undoubtedly gives the Mater something tangible to occupy her mind even though it does entail extra work fitting up a new home.  But the Mater takes a keen interest in that sort of thing.  I was rather tickled by the incident of the dog leaving his mark on the slab of white plaster that had been left to set for the walls.  If the walls now show paw-marks you can work that off as the family crest.  That suggestion of financial assistance always holds good should it ever be needed in any direction whatever.

What is this new home like & exactly where is it.  I dont think I know Kerford St.  Is the house of brick.
