rather coldly and offhanded but in the end when I had explained all details to him he was more than decent to me.  I had written a long letter informally to him but in reply to this I received a very distant note stating that being marked CI did not allow of any brother being sent back to Australia.  However on one of my visits to Horseferry Road I took Fred with me and when I had extracted a definite promise from the Commandant I handed Fred over to Col Evans who filled in the necessary papers and I understand that all that is wanted
