The War, 22.8.18

My dearest Mother

Now that I've at last got a wee bit of time to myself Ill try and write you a decent letter to make up for the long time since I've written you at length.

Of course you'll understand the circumstances so Ill not start making excuses or offering apologies for my silence 'cos you know that if any letters have been scanty and infrequent you wont think I've been forgetful or neglectful, Im sure.

For a start young Syd is quite well and happy.  He is just about due back from England where he has been on 14 days leave.  I guess the Kid's had a ripping time and Im anxious to see him to learn how he fared.

I got a note yesterday from Fred dated 30/6/18 from Cape Town so I expect he is well at home now and this fact pleases one immensely.

I had a note a few days ago from Mrs Atkinson, your doctor's mother, and I appreciated it muchly.  There was no address on it so I sent my answer care of you.

I think I told you a few weeks ago that I was to go to a Veterinary Hospital for a 10 days
