Dearest Mater

Many thanks for letters dated 24 July 14th & 26 Aug & 5 Sept. received from you recently.

I'm awfully sorry to hear you have been so ill.  My first proper intimation was from Connie & Ida.  I could read between the lines of your letters that you werent well but I had no idea your illness was as serious as it was and that you've had to spend such a period in bed.  I am not a little anxious and I am sorry the Pater doesn't let me know exactly what is going on at home instead of me finding these sort of things out indirectly from other people.  It increases the anxiety a great deal.  You've apparently had  a very severe time but I'm glad to note by Connie's & Ida's recent letters that you are much brighter lately.  Ida tells me the Pater wants her to go for a holiday with you.  I do wish this could be
