position was as it was. A home without the Mater could not have felt like home properly and Im sure Fred realized this. Really it's hard even now for me to be reminded that when I get back in a few weeks time I will find myself homeless but then its a fair while now since I knew a home and no doubt I'll soon accommodate myself to the new state of affairs. One thing I am assured of though, Pater, you were entirely right in getting rid of the house. You'd have been foolish to have kept it under any conditions in the circumstances - apart from retaining so much extra and needless responsibility and worry on your shoulders.
Can quite understand how hard it must be for you to be continually reminded of your sorrow by friends enquiring after Mother. I have undergone, and am still undergoing, occasional unhappy episodes of like nature.
