had done a lot of droving, & brought his dogs along to help us over the river.

The bullocks started in, & would have crossed all right, but his dogs got out of hand, & got in front of the bullocks, & turned them back.

After that nothing would persuade them to cross at the good crossing & we had to take them up the river to a much worse place, & the Station dogs believed what their owner thought of them (& it was not complimentary), & stayed behind instead of in front, the bullocks swam over without any trouble.

We borrowed a couple of round tubs from the station, & floated tea sugar flour & everything across in them, & little Bill who could not swim, overhanded it on a rope stretched, across the river, with most of him in the water.

Mr Rickards offered to take him over with a tub, Bill to hold on to the side down stream, & said he
