old Norman fortress & the whole would yield a pleasant afternoons inspection, but unfortunately our time was limited. We returned to Bournemouth for tea & during the evening I went down by tram to Poole, a shipping port 5 miles down the coast. But by this time it had grown quite dark & this in conjunction with the darkening of all exterior lights gave the town a very gloomy aspect. However I persisted in taking a walk through the town & onto the Quay, but didn't care much about wandering through the dark & narrow streets of an English shipping town on my own so managed to find
