having crossed which, I made a circuit of the rather poorer dwelling in that portion of the city environs, returning again to the Tower Bridge. The Bridge is most impressive by reason of its two immense towers for raising and lowering the hinged span between them. I was sorry not to have the pleasure of seeing these gateways operate. My next object of interest was the Tower of London situate right at the city end of the Tower Bge. To civilians there is a charge of about 2/6 to visit the whole of the Tower but again soldiers & sailors free. I was able to visit the Bloody Tower where the two
