with joyfulness. Then the A8 moves. Gradually one by one the streamers break till one is left unbroken. After a while she breaks also and we can be said to have left our native shores. Slowly we pass Garden Island and anchor out in the stream, presently to be surrounded by motor launches overcrowded and seemingly sinking with the numbers on board. The fair sex overanxious to say a last farewell to their dear ones.
3 pm We move off & pass the Heads leaving behind our gay escort of launches and passing the cheering forts of South Head, steam out into the far blue sea - alone.
