I could not help remarking the large number of chemist shops and of high class hotels, the place of the ordinary hotel of Sydney seemingly totally taken by the chemist shops. The class distinction here is very noticeable, I mean between native and European. The European does not associate in any way with the native, looking upon him as a cowardly inferior. The natives treat the whites with the utmost deference. They will always step aside
