Here I found a state of chaos practically, & having seen my account adjusted correctly, I was given a receipt for £4 & allowed to leave the bank, without having paid £4 at all. But being one of that stupid conscientious class I returned as soon as I discovered the fact, & gave the horrified cashier the £4 he might have lost so foolishly. These transactions were enough to drive anyone's appetite away, but nevertheless, I met Mrs and Miss Milligan & together we had lunch & went out to Richmond and Hampton Court Palace where we spent
