and are conveyed ashore in a tug & coal lighter. The poor fellows down on the lighter can see nothing. Arrived ashore at Victoria Basin the units fall in & march off in column of route. The trip chosen is out to Green Point where we break off for lunch in a parade ground in rear of one of the forts, Shortly after 1 o'clock, when we have all finished lunch, we parade again and are dismissed till 3-45. We make tracks for the city, and my pal and I go out to Rhodes' famous residence at Rhonderbeach [Rondebosch] - Groote Schur over which we are shown by the butler whom we don't of courseĀ
