29/6/16 (Thursday) After an uneventful voyage we have followed our guardian Kent for two weeks and make tracks for the land now visible ahead. A rocky point & even more rocky island appear with white houses red-tiled upon the mainland. The place is Dakar, the capital of the French colony of Senegal. We anchored in the bay for a moment & then proceeded between two concrete breakwaters into the harbour proper. Dakar is evidently a French naval base, being obviously heavily fortified.
