march to Dulwich Hill trams which convey us thro' the sleeping suburbs & city to our wharf at Wooloomooloo where I meet Edd with parcel & Mrs McLean & Walter about 6 am. How good of Mrs M. She thought Mother would be there.

7 am I say good-bye & march on to wharf. Poor Edd is very cut up. We parade on wharf and then go aboard. 

8 am The crowds are allowed on the wharf. They pour on to wharf like a torrent. I see them from my perch in the bow where I had secreted myself. Then the men are allowed on deck & streamers are woven from ship to shore. The wharf is a mass of dazzling colour. Sorrow is confused
