on, for our scouts came back & reported that there were barb wire entanglements under all this thick scrub & vines & it took a long while to destroy it.
During this time shrapnel started to fall but somehow they fire too high but we had to put a few under the ground.
As we went along I might add a telephone was laid & after getting rid of the wire entanglements word came through to lay quiet until further orders from headquarters & then there was a lull on both sides. Not a Turk was to be seen but they were waiting & their artillery had not fired a round for some time, suddenly as if controlled by magic signal the warships ceased to fire too.
We got the "mad micks" and the "banjos" to work & dug ourselves in & there was two long lines of khaki & a little to the right front were the New Zealanders & just behind were the "froggies" & our reinforcements were a mile in the rear.
An aeroplane appeared above & we got a scare as it dropped what appeared to be
