Dear Mother,
A few lines on our way as we are in the train & have been one hour already & it's pretty noisy as everyone is singing & these trains make a terrible clatter but it's only a few hours to the boats & then only three days on board & then we are going to make ourselves felt.
I would have liked to get your letter this week but they are out of the question now, I got Yvonne's post card.
We have plenty of biscuits & bully beef for tea & some of them have started already, & our pet dog is also chewing, he is a lovely old fellow & he has got a coat made with his name & battalion painted on, he has also got his number & the colorsĀ of the 13th Batt which is light blue & dark blue, which I may tell you each Battalion has a different distinguishing colour.
We are going to try & bring "Laddie"
