Dear Mother
I haven't had time to write before but we arrived here on Monday about six o'clock & this is the most dirtiest hole I have seen, as there is not a blade of grass here & when it rains it is a perfect pigstye & the mud is up to the knees.
We had a fine reception as we passed through each station on the way & when we got to Albury we had a great surprise for when the train pulled into the station we were met by tremendous crowds of people who cheered us along through the town as we marched to the town hall where we found a nice breakfast laid & the people themselves waited at the long tables, we had a good feed & felt very much pleased & when we had finished & were about to be marched back to the railway station the whole battalion gave three of the
