At last morning came & had to move forward about fifteen miles so I had a good ride & picked up Bill again. Our side nearly walked into a clever trap as soon as we had some tea which was 7-30 & our scouts got some good praise as they saved us a lot of work, for they found out exactly the numbers & where they had taken up a strong position so half of the brigade were marched a good way further on but nowhere within sight of the enemy & the other half which was left entrenched so that we had them between two lots of fire while their reinforcements were attacked by the light horse so hot it was a good victory for our side, we were all wishing that they were Germans which we were fighting.

We got back at eight last night & pretty tired & covered in dirt for we had no wash from the time we left until home was reached again, & had only biscuits & cheese for meals & yesterday morning had a
