two & three weeks without a bean, & then when pay is issued we get 5/- or ten bob if we are lucky.

It snowed here all Saturday & Sunday & some of the lads had some good snow ball fights and I would have liked to had a go too, but at the time I was nearly dead.  Soon after getting here we all got heavy colds & they are still bad, & everyone talks just above a whisper.  I had influenza & went to the doctor but he reckoned the [there] was nothing the matter & sent me on parade but I never got there, as I went & put myself on a job for three days & I was just beginning to feel a bit better when this cold went to my chest & now I cough & bark all day & night & have a pain in the chest, but I'd sooner drop first than go near this doctor.

He was up for court martial as a man in the 15 Batt. went up one morning feeling bad, but he was given two pills & sent back to parade, but
