Have got a "snifter" cough & I can't get rid of it.
Today & yesterday was very foggy & we could not make anything out beyond 40 or 50 yds, & its no good for colds. No letters from Rod or Rex, they must be busy & have no time yet.
Most of the water taps have burst as the thaw has set in at last & the ground is brekaing up & the result is much mud mud everywhere all over uniforms & all. Will be mighty glad to say goodbye to Codford & may it be blown up to the skies.
Am going in to Codford tonight which will be the first time since being here, & I am going to a one eyed picture show - 4 miles walk.
Four died with menengitis [meningitis] on Saturday - bad luck - so you will see in the papers, "Died while on Active Service". Have been throwing live bombs today & my arm is as stiff as a crutch.
Have been issued with our goods & chatels for the trenches, including steel helmets, water proof capes, & boots which I think I'll
