& when the raid was made at Whitechapel there we [were] over a hundred killed & wound there. The people live in constant fear of these raids & are as nervous & frightened as two year old kids, & they go to all kinds of funny precautions.

I have had a lovely little Brownie KodakĀ given to me, & now I'm a snapshot maniac, but I haven't yet learned to snap properly but there are one or two I took which came out fine & I took some very pretty views yesterday but I don't know what they are like yet as there is no dark room here & I have to send the films to a chemist to be developed & I must get a book & paste them in, which I will send out to you before going to business again.

I am going to take my "Brownie" with me to my little grey home in the trench as I saw one or two taken while I was there, but it was by one of the chaps who couldn't do much as he was "punctured" in the arm while another had a "pill" in the thigh. This terrible business is going to bring our
