was being knocked about by the Huns. At the mills we were in a safe position but half a mile away was the village of Daours which received its dose of shells from Fritz every day. At night Fritz is constantly coming over in his bombing machines dropping bombs round about the district. One evening he dropped 23 along the Amiens-Corbie Road & beyond tearing the fields up did little damage. Some of the men used to throw bombs into the Somme to catch the fish who would come up to the surface stunned with concussion & it was an easy matter to pick them out with your hands.
May 24th I had a letter from my sister informing me of the sad news of my brothers death Killed in Action 22/4/18 in the Bethune Sector. While I was at the base I made enquiries but was told to write to the 3rd
