knocked about & some blown down. By this time we had taken Bapaume so on March 19th Scotty & I visited Fleurs Thilloy & Bapaume. Fleurs was smashed up to matchwood two tanks were lying in the road at the northern end of the village & the road was very muddy so we walked along a side track that runs parallel to the road, passing Factory corner we came to Thilloy another village smashed to stones with a huge crater in the center of the main road. We are now in the Pas-de-Calais clear of the Somme district - the road from Thilloy to Bapaume was in good condition & we entered Bapaume which was still burning we did not  see too much that day as we only went down a few streets. I want you to understand
