chase he rats onto the ice & the thin ice would brake but that would not stop him he would very seldom miss the rat he was after. I have seen big rats turn & fight him & some days his nose & ears would get bitten & he would come home with plenty of blood all over him like a true warrior. His name as I said before was Jack but it should have been digger as he was always sniffing & digging for rats & seldom when he started digging would he be wrong.
On Dec 17th 1917 we left Youngstreet to go out for our rest. I was sorry to leave the place as it was so comfortable & quiet, & many nights I went out for a drive in one of the ambulance cars for a change. These drivers have no lights & therefore develop eyes like a cat. Before I leave this place I must tell you that Fritz often came over in lhis
