a small cage about 150 fathoms & saw the trucks & horses the lines & facings where they dig the coal out from. It was so very hot down there, but interesting & after I saw what kind of work the nimers have to do, I am glad I am not a miner, & would rather be in the A.I.F. any day.
Jan 2nd saw me off to Edinburgh where I spent half a day. Visited the Castle & heard the gun fire off at one pm to tell the folks the time or to save them buying watches so I thought, saw Scotts monument. Went along Princess Street & had lunch there seems to be plenty of food in Scotland. Edinburgh seems a much nicer place than Glasgow but of course lts not the comercial city that Glasgow is the town was full of soldiers
