at Daours. On our journey we passed through Amiens the city so dear to the Australians now being shelled by the Huns it was indeed the city of the dead as the only living things one saw there besides soldiers & French Police were starving cats & dogs.

May 11th was taken on strength again as Corporal Cook of A. Section. Its simply great to be back with the boys again in spite of the fact I had not gone through my operation. I felt very well indeed. The Ambulance were billeted in some wollen mills on the banks of the Somme where the various Battalions held swimming sports & the men were having the time of their lives swimming & fishing also were having punts & rowing boats out on the river the weather at this time was perfect it was more like a holiday. One could see from here the church at Corbie which
