& Colonel Shepherd left us after over two years as our O.C. to go to the Second Division as A.D.M.S. Many boys were getting knocked almost every day & our strength as a unit was getting weak until reinforcements arrived.
Sept 26th I visited Bailluel but spent a quiet day in town.
October 9th I visited Poperighne & heard my brother Sam was only a few miles away so I set off to find him & found him near Elvertghne. We spent about an hour together & made arrangements to see each other later on. This was the last time I saw him because two days later I had a field card to say he was wounded & he went to the base at Boulogne (April 22 1918 he was killed in action). I cannot say much about the other side of Ypres as I was never there, but
